The Street Food Bug

I should really rethink the title of this entry because it sounds like I'm going to be talking about catching food poisoning from street food vendors. Far from it, the London street food scene is amazing, so much choice and most importantly so much quality. Here are my top 5 (in no particular order) street food eats in London.

1. B.O.B.'s Lobster Ahi-Tuna Tacos

These are sooooo addictive. I love the contrasts in flavours and textures. You have the crunchy fried wonton wrapper against the delicate tuna meat and there's some spicy kick in the sauce they use to go with the guacamole and fresh tuna. One of my favourite street snacks.

Where can I find B.O.B?? On the 9th and 10th of May they will be at Dalston Yard at Chilli Chilli Bang Bang
what an awesome looking photo...

2. Bleecker Burger

This was one of the first things I ate when I discovered the street food scene in London and I didn't immediately fall in love with it. But I'm a open-minded kind of guy so decided to give it another go, and a third go, and a fourth...suffice to say, it's probably my favourite burger ever, this includes ones from restaurants. It combines quality beef sourced from small farms around England with 'good ole' American Cheese. The result, an amazingly simple yet juicy and beefy burger. Combine it with a portion of their angry fries, eat and sit back and relax on a sunny day on the Southbank, can't think of many things better.

Where is the Bleecker Van?? Bleecker are part of the Kerb street food group and they have a couple of locations, one in Kings Cross, and one at the Gherkin.

3 Bread Ahead Doughnuts

I don't have a huge sweet tooth, I'm definitely more of a savoury man but one thing I'm an absolute sucker for are doughnuts and my favourites are from the peeps at Breadahead. The actual doughnut is so soft and vanilla custard filling is so indulgent. Also love their salted caramel and honeycomb one. I have no qualms about polishing off 4 in one sitting!

I need my doughnut fix now!! Go to Borough Market Monday to Saturday and you'll find their stall.

4. MotherClucker Cluckwitch

I love working out, and in my head I say to myself 'yeah chicken sandwich is fine, protein innit?' Whenever I have a craving for a cheat meal I head down to the Truman Brewery and make a beeline for the MotherClucker van. I love the portions sizes, they mound up strips of chicken in a brioche bun and it's covered in hot sauce and lime mayo. I always feel a little short changed after I finish, not because it's expensive and definitely not because its a small portion but because it tastes so good I feel one is not enough.

I need me some crispy chicken please! Head towards Elys Yard at the Truman Brewery by Spitalfields and you'll find the MotherClucker truck there.

5. Scotchtails Scotch Eggs

These guys combine two of my favourite things; scotch eggs and sweet potato fries. The ingredients are high quality with meat sourced from the brilliant Ginger Pig butchers and the egg is cooked to gooey perfection.

Want that meaty eggy goodness! Another Borough Market stall. Nearest station is London Bridge.

This is my top 5 but there is so much choice out there that I'm pretty sure that everyone would come up with something different. I suggest to go out and explore and see what the street food scene has to offer.
