Chicken or beef? Next time I go for both.

Its really hard for me to justify going for a chicken option at one of the best burger establishments in London because for all intents and purpose, beef IS better than chicken (what a ridiculous statement...but it's true). Also its hard to accept that you'll be walking out of Patty and Bun not having eaten one of their amazing hamburgers (unless you decide to be an absolutely greedy bastard) but I decided to go for the Chicken burger.

I'm grateful that the P&B peeps have opened up a new branch in Liverpool Street because it has helped reduce the queues at their Bond Street one. Instead of queuing for 40 minutes I was only queuing for 20 minutes... to be honest I'd wait in line for up to an hour (depending on my hunger levels) for their burgers. Yes I like them that much.

One thing I love as much as my food is going to the gym. These 2 passions constantly have me torn, 'I love working out, but I love eating burgers, I want a six pack but I want to eat six doughnuts'. As a compromise I have one cheat day a week (ok it's more like 2 but who's counting?). Friday is my allocated cheat day and I decided to be good by going for some healthy chicken...deep fried and slathered in sauce.

Above is the 'Hot Chic' Chicken Burger in all its glory. The chicken is marinaded in buttermilk to tenderize it and then deep fried and placed on a brioche bun with spicy coleslaw, garlic aioli and lettuce. The batter is light and crispy, the aoili is prominent without being overpowering and there was enough filling in the bun without ruining its consistency. I can never go to P&B without ordering a couple of sides, this time I opted for their slaw and thunder thighs. The combination of slaw and fried is as good as Chinese roast duck and rice, bacon and eggs, oreos and milk...you get the idea. The thunder thighs although not much of a looker were delicious. The thighs are confited so the skin is crispy, blistered and the meat falls away effortlessly and there is a real smokiness to the jalapeno sauce, definitely prefer the thunder thighs to the chicken wings.

The 'hot chic' chicken burger is further confirmation that Patty and Bun is one of my favourite places to eat in London; love the friendliness of the staff, the buzzy atmosphere and most importantly the stunningly good food.

  1. I still need to check out P&B, especially now they have one in the city. The chicken burger looks too good to pass up!
