Hawksmoor's motto, couldn't agree more. |
I'm always on the look out for great breakfast spots in London, and my friend had raved about Hawksmoor breakfast for long enough so it had to be done. Hawksmoor has three locations however they only serve lunch at their Guildhall branch in the heart of the City. Its no wonder then when you walk in, the room is full of business types having meetings, discussing how to take over the world whilst munching on bacon chops.
I don't hang out with these particular group of friends often, not because I don't like them, not because they bore me, it's because whenever we do hangout we eat like we're kings at a medieval banquet. Despite it being quarter to eight in the morning I knew this meal was not going to be any different from our previous ones. Whilst I waited for my friends I supped on a Cornflake milkshake, does exactly what it says on the tin, a milkshake that tastes of cornflakes.
The Menu is varied, you've got your classic English breakfasts, bacon sandwiches, pastries, kippers, salmon and of course steaks given that it's a steakhouse. Between the four of us we ordered the Lobster Benedict, steak and eggs, and the behemoth Hawksmoor breakfast.
Steak might seem a bit of a heavy choice for the morning but as expected this rib-eye was cooked to perfection. Coupled with the runny eggs and the most amazing hash browns I've ever had this makes for such a brilliant breakfast dish.
One of the more decadent options on the menu is the Lobster Benedict. This was a stunning dish. The sweet lobster meat was an amazing combination with the perfectly cooked poached egg. Quite a rich breakfast option but a thing of beauty nonetheless.
The daddy of the breakfast menu is the Hawksmoor Breakfast. Only the brave should tackle this alone, and as it states on the menu it's for 2! This mammoth breakfast has a smoked bacon chop (think a 3 inch thick slab of bacon), sausages using their own blend of pork, beef and mutton, black pudding, short rib bubble and squeak, grilled bone marrow, trotter baked beans, grilled mushrooms, tomatoes and unlimited toast. With such a large breakfast it's so easy to get something wrong, but everything is spot on and I couldn't get enough of the short rib bubble! Only gripe is that it's a shame it doesn't come with hash browns, but that's just me being greedy.
That cornflake milkshake is SO good! I've never been to Hawksmoor for breakfast, but looking at your photos.. I think I need to! It looks, as they say, proper epic! lol. I had their sunday roast and it's also really, really good!
ReplyDeleteI find it hard deciding who does the best steaks, which place serves the best burgers but I have no problem saying that Hawksmoor does the best breakfasts! Well worth a trip Paula!
