Lobsters of London

There are only two reasons why I don't eat lobster everyday, I want to buy a house and I don't want to be broke. Basically I love this crustacean, I love how the Chinese cook it with ginger and spring and onion, I love how the Italians pair it with pasta, and the French slathering it in creamy cheese but most of all I love it stuffed in some carbs, particularly a toasted brioche bun. So here is my run down of my top 3 lobster rolls in London.

1) The Daddy- Burger and Lobster

Firstly, all this will set you back £20, fries, lobster roll and a salad. In the affluent city of London that really isn't a bad deal at all. So is the quality compromised for the fair offer? Absolutely not. One thing that hits me on the first bite is how fresh the lobster meat tastes, which is surprising because they air-freights the lobster all the way from Maine. The lobster is sweet and goes well with the creamy mayonnaise and squeeze of lemon. Also the brioche bun is perfect, buttery and toasted with just enough crispiness. The fries really reminded me of McDonalds fries which is no bad thing because on the very rare occasion I do venture into MaccyDs I go absolutely to town on their fries. My favourite lobster roll in London? Yeah just about.

2) One of my street food heroes- BOBS Lobster

Before I was aware of the street food scene in London, I had the preconceived notion that street food meant greasy burgers and generally poor quality food...jeez, how wrong was I?? I absolutely adore the street food offerings of London, so much variety and so much quality. But surely a street food van can't do justice to lobster? These guys manage it. Please bare in mind that the picture above is only their mini roll, they do a larger one (get the large one please!). The lobster meat is sweet and its sprinkled with chilli powder which gives it a bit of a kick. Get a side of tuna tacos too, you won't regret it!

3)Steak Behemoths do seafood too- Hawksmoor

I've pretty much tried everything on the Hawksmoor menu (and it's all pretty much brilliant) but always had a scepticism towards their seafood offerings. I thought I would give their lobster roll a go. The meat is slightly firmer than the 2 previous counterparts in this blog but it's cooked in this gorgeous garlic butter and served with bearnaise sauce. It doesn't come with any sides and at £25 it's more expensive than B&L and BOBS but it's still a really good lobster roll.

So there you have it, my 3 favourite lobster rolls in London. With more places serving lobster rolls such as Big Easy, I'm sure to chop and change this list in the near future.
